NAVBO 2008 Junior Investigator Award
Deadline for Applications  November 30

The Junior Investigator Award is presented by the Society to those individuals who have excelled in their investigative efforts as trainees studying vascular biology.  The award includes: a certificate of achievement presented at the NAVBO Membership Business Meeting on Tuesday, April 8 at 11:45am (room to be determined), presentation of the winning abstract at EB and $750. Two awards will be given in this category depending on the level of training.

Eligible candidates must be either a graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, resident or junior faculty (within three years of completing your training).  Each student or postdoctoral applicant must be a trainee member of NAVBO, junior faculty applicants must be a regular member.  Prior winners or runners up of the NAVBO Junior Investigator Award may reapply if the work submitted is clearly distinct from the work previously submitted for their winning application (not just a continuation of the same project).  In such cases, the applicants should submit a copy of the previous winning application and abstract along with the new application (contact administrative office).

Candidates for this Award must:

1.    Submit an abstract to the EB2008 meeting.  This must be completed first – you will need your abstract ID number to complete the online application for this award.

2.   Be a Member of NAVBO (according to the criteria stated above).  You can apply for membership at the time of abstract submission.  Download a membership application from our web site – www.navbo.org/app.pdf or you can apply online at www.navbo.org.  The cost of NAVBO trainee membership is $40, regular membership is $110 per year.

3.   Submit an application on line - (click here and follow the online instructions).  This will include uploading a copy of your abstract and a letter from your supervisor attesting to your status and your contribution to the work.

4.   Submission deadline is November 30, 2007.

Selection Process:
Up to eight finalists will be chosen from the submitted applications.  These finalists will be required to give a poster presentation on Saturday, April 5 from 6:15-7:30pm (room to be determined).  This is in addition to the regularly scheduled Experimental Biology presentation.  Judges will review your abstract and presentation at that time, the winners will be selected and announced at the NAVBO Membership Business.  All finalists must attend this meeting.
