Scholarships

Scholarships will be awarded based on need - for those who wish to attend but do not have funding available within their department or institution. Applicants must be at some training level (undergraduate, graduate or medical students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, PhD students).  

Applications will be accepted online only - complete the form below. Applications will be accepted through June 1 - this deadline will be strictly adhered to - thank you.

The number of scholarships will be based on available funding, the value is yet to be determined but at a minimum will cover dormitory housing and basic registration.

Applications must be accompanied by:

  • a CV
  • a letter from the mentor or supervisor
  • a letter from the applicant explaining the need for this additional funding

The above documents should be in pdf format.

The letter from your mentor or supervisor should verify your status within the lab/department and also confirm that there are little to no funds available for you to attend Vasculata. It should also state how Vasculata would be helpful to you in furthering your work.

It is NOT necessary to submit an abstract to qualify for the scholarship. However, we do encourage all attendees to submit an abstract. See "Abstracts" in the left menu.

Travel Awards for Under-Represented Minorities

This meeting, with support from NHLBI/NIH will provide five travel awards ($500 each) to students or postdoctoral fellows who belong to an under-represented minority (African American, Latino, Native American) and are interested in the field of vascular biology and/or attending Vasculata. NAVBO and the University of Illinois at Chicago seek to attract talented young investigators to ensure a diverse and highly trained workforce that will be available to assume leadership roles in research.  

To apply, send your CV, a letter from your supervisor attesting to your current role at your institution/department and a letter from you expressing your interest in vascular biology (you do not need to be currently enrolled in a vascular biology program) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You must submit your application by June 1, 2017.

Poster Awards

There will be an onsite poster competition.  Five awards will be presented to postdocs/MD trainees and five to undergraduate and graduate students.  In each category, there will be a top prize of $250 and four runners-up will receive $100 each.  Posters will be judged on appearance, content and the presentation (how engaged and knowledgeable is the presenter, etc.).  More details about the competition will be onsite; you no need to apply prior to the meeting.  However, you are required to submit an abstract for poster presentation if you are interested in this award.
