Dr. Hughes is Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry and a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. He is also the Interim Director, Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology. His lab’s primary interests are molecular mechanisms of angiogenesis, including the role of “EMT” transcription factors slug and snail; development of microphysiological systems (body-on-a-chip) for high-throughput drug screening; and molecular mechanisms of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT).  Find out more about Dr. Hughes and his lab at http://faculty.sites.uci.edu/hugheslab/

The presentation entitled, A Perfused Blood-Brain Barrier on a Chip, is a more in-depth version of the presentation given by his colleague in the "Bioengineering Organ-Specific Vasculatures" session at Vascular Biology 2017 (Monterey, CA; October 15-19, 2017).  It will include some exciting new data.
